The Beach Rules

Beach Rules - Please read and follow so we all can continue to enjoy the beach together

  • Our family is a member of the Hawley Association (founded by one of our forebears, Helen Hawley). Association members have access to the beach to the right (south) of the stairs (facing the beach standing on the stairs). We have the privilege of allowing guests to our cottage to enjoy the beach as well. Following the rules below is important to ensure that we can maintain that privilege.

  • We have access for approximately 200 feet down the beach to the right. That's a LOT of beach. :) So please go down the stairs and turn right to find a place to set up for your beach activities.

  • For safety and courtesy please don't set up at or near the foot of the stairs.

  • Don't use any permanently mounted umbrellas or other equipment on the beach, or set up right next to them. They belong to local residents and are not for public use.

  • Some residents have storage boxes on the beach near the bluffs. Avoid setting up directly in front of those boxes so that those owners have clear access to their boxes and can easily set up when they come to the beach.

  • You can walk anywhere along the entire length of the beach (at or near low tide) - it's about 2 1/2 miles from point to point! :)

  • Take everything you bring and any trash back up to the cottage at the end of your beach day. Don't leave things behind on the beach.

  • Please always be courteous and friendly with other beach users, and ensure you are not disturbing others. Access to the beach is a privilege that everyone enjoys and we want to be able to continue to offer it to our guests.

See the General Info page for information on beach keys, how to get to the beach, kids beach toys available at the cottage, and other useful stuff.
